Welcome to onPeak, Siobhan Doherty!
Hi onPeakers! Some of you know her and some of you may not, so we thought we would turn the spotlight on Siobhan Doherty, who started with onPeak in May! She was kind enough to answer some ‘burning’ questions (we don’t actually have any ‘burning’ questions, but its provocative; it gets the people going!). Take a minute and get acquainted with our new Account Services Associate!
- How has your experience been so far? Anything that’s been better or different than you expected?
My experience has been great so far! The support of the whole Account Services team and collaboration between departments has really impressed me and made learning the ropes a lot easier and more enjoyable. This is also my first remote role and getting into a nice routine with some more flexibility has been awesome.
- What parts of the job are starting to feel comfortable, and what still feels unclear?
I have gotten much more comfortable lately with how the different processes and job functions are integrated and support each other throughout the event life cycle. I am still learning new things about Compass every day.
- What would you like to accomplish or get better at over the next few months?
I would like to continue learning how AI can support job function while maintaining the human touch that is so important to our role, and also generally get more comfortable interpreting contracts, specifically building room blocks.
- What’s something people at work probably wouldn’t guess about you?
I used to be in a punk band, and I have a degree in studio art! I am also currently studying for my level 2 WSET in Wine, so if anyone ever wants to talk wine, I’m your gal. I have a lot of varying interests but anything food industry and/or art related are two big ones.
- What’s something you’ve been really into lately—show, hobby, sport, podcast, book, etc.?
Honestly? I just watched Heated Rivalry extremely late but totally get the hype. I also have disassembled an old CD player boombox in hopes of trying to repair the disc reader function. So reading manuals and circuit board maps has been something on my mind lately.
- What’s the best piece of advice you’ve ever gotten?
“Do it badly.” As someone who tends to lean towards perfectionism and has trouble starting if I don’t feel confident that I can do something at least passably well, if not definitively well, some of the best advice that has stuck with me is to just do it badly first. Make it exist, and then you can make it good later. I wish I remember who specifically gave me that advice but for now I’ll credit one of my favorite sculpture professors I had, Matt Boonstra who I know helped reinforce the idea to me.
