The Unsung Heroes of the Bottom Line
Keeping the gears turning so the whole machine runs smoothly.
When most people hear “Finance Department,” the mental image is standard: spreadsheets, invoices, maybe a stern email or two to a hotel about overdue payments. But the reality? This team is doing far more than crunching numbers – they’re the backbone of our financial health and a big reason that everything else can keep moving forward.
Meet the Team Behind the Magic
- Karen Wegrzyn – Senior Finance Manager
- Roxana Alanis – Senior Financial Analyst
- Anthony Smith – Financial Analyst
- Douglas Koehler – Financial Analyst
Small team, huge impact. Every day, they navigate a complex web of contracts, audits, and client agreements to make sure money flows where it should—quickly, accurately, and transparently.
So…What Do They Actually Do?
Think of Finance as the ultimate multi-taskers. Here’s a peek behind the scenes:
- Commission Invoicing: Once hotels report actual pick-up numbers (in-block reservations and audits), Finance springs into action, reviewing contracts, analyzing Compass reports and hotel actuals then generating commission invoices for every hotel across every show.
- Rebate Invoicing: For select clients, they handle rebates with surgical precision. Because nothing says “we value you” like delivering a well-earned rebate on time.
- Revenue/Expense Forecasting & Analysis: These reports aren’t just the typical spreadsheets – they’re the heartbeat of our financial health.
- Partnering with SSAG: Finance works hand-in-hand with the Shared Services Accounting Group (SSAG) by collaborating with the cash application and accounts payables teams plus assisting our friendly neighborhood collections squad to help research complex issues related to unpaid hotel commissions and keep cash flowing.
- Month-End Close: Every month, they prepare journal entries and calculations for onPeak’s close process, a critical step in keeping our books balanced.
- Client Revenue Share & Rebate Payments: They ensure clients receive their monthly payments based on client service agreements, reinforcing trust and transparency.
- Hotel Reconciliation: They reconcile and pay hotels for all deposit funds received, closing the loop on every transaction.
Why It Matters
Without this team, the lights don’t stay on—literally. They’re the ones making sure revenue is collected, obligations are met, and financial insights are shared so leadership can make informed decisions. They may not always be front and center, but their work touches every part of our business.
So next time you see Karen, Roxana, Anthony, or Douglas, give them a high-five – virtually, at least. They’re not just number crunchers—they’re the unsung heroes of the bottom line.
